Home for the Holidays Adoption Event Brings Seasonal Savings to Henderson Shelter Pets

The holiday season often brings a focus on togetherness and fresh starts, and for animals waiting in shelters, that opportunity can make all the difference. Henderson Animal Protection Services is inviting the community to be part of that change through its Home for the Holidays adoption event, running from November 29 through December 31. During the event, adoption fees for pets one year and older are offered at half price, creating an accessible path for families considering adding a pet during the season.

A Local Shelter Serving Henderson’s Animals

Henderson Animal Protection Services serves as the city’s municipal shelter, caring for a wide range of animals while working to reunite lost pets with their families and place adoptable animals into permanent homes. The shelter houses dogs, cats, and small animals, and operates with a focus on responsible placement, public education, and animal welfare within the Henderson community.

What the Holiday Adoption Event Includes

The Home for the Holidays promotion applies to pets one year of age and older and is available during normal business hours throughout the event period. Adoptions are completed in person at Henderson Animal Protection Services, located at 300 E. Galleria Drive in Henderson. Walk-ins are welcome, and adoptions are handled on a first-come, first-served basis with standard applicant screening. The shelter is open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with adoptions finalized by 4:30 p.m. The shelter is closed on Sundays and government-recognized holidays.

With many animals available, visitors are encouraged to arrive early, especially during busier holiday weeks.

Understanding Adoption Fees and What They Cover

Outside of special promotions, adoption fees at Henderson Animal Protection Services are structured by species and age. Kittens six months and younger are typically $100, while cats over six months are $85. Puppies six months and younger are generally $150, with dogs over six months priced at $125 for those under 30 pounds and $100 for those over 30 pounds. Fees for other animals include $100 for ferrets, $40 for rabbits, $10 for guinea pigs, and $5 for smaller animals such as gerbils, hamsters, or rats. Fees for reptiles, birds, and other miscellaneous small animals vary by species, ranging from $5 to $150.

These adoption fees include routine vaccinations, spay or neuter surgery if not already completed, microchip identification and registration, and either a rabies tag or a Henderson license, depending on residency. Guinea pigs are generally not vaccinated, spayed, neutered, or microchipped. The shelter accepts cash, checks, and major credit cards.

Making the Holidays Meaningful for Pets and People

For families considering adoption, the Home for the Holidays event offers a practical opportunity to welcome a new companion while supporting a local shelter during one of its busiest times of year. For the animals waiting inside, it represents more than a seasonal promotion — it’s a chance to begin the next chapter of their lives in a home where they can finally settle in, not just for the holidays, but for the long term.

Henderson Animal Protection Services continues to remind the community that adoption is a commitment, but also one of the most impactful ways to support animal welfare close to home.
